Microblading/Powder Brows FAQ's
Eyebrow game is everything in today's world, and Ashley Lynn Esthetics is here to help you!
Microblading is a semi-permanent solution to a sparse, over waxed, and over plucked eyebrow. It is ideal for covering up gaps, lighter fronts/tails, defining the desired shape and creating an arch that we've lost over the years.
Microblading is implemented using a handheld tool. It's made up of several micro needles in the shape of a blade and then implanted into the skin. It is achieved with two sessions (the second session is always included in the initial price, unless after six weeks). The second session is approximately 30 days after the initial session NO MORE than six weeks after.
Choosing Microblading alone or doing a combo brow comes down to what you are looking to achieve. If you are wanting to create a natural looking brow then Microblading alone is the route to go. Microblading alone will not give you a “Make-up” look, it is meant solely to create “little hairs" look. If you are wanting a darker, fuller more of a “make up” then a combination brow/powder brow is what you're after.
How is Microblading different than tattooed eyebrows?
1. Microblading is the process of planting pigment into the skin with a handheld tool, also known as a pen. This results in fine lines that simulate hair strokes, unlike eyebrow tattooing which is done using a motorized device (causing ink to be deposited in deeper layers of the skin) and ink which tends to “spill out” over time under the skin.
2. Microblading artists use pigment vs ink. Pigment has a thicker consistency while ink is waterier in texture and tends to last longer. Microbladed brows can last up to 2 years before fully fading out. The life of your brows will depend on your skin type and lifestyle. People with oily skin and/or big pores will need touch ups more often as well as people who are more frequently exposed to the sun and tanning booths. I recommend a touch-up every 8-12 months to keep them as fresh as possible.
Does it hurt?
Topical numbing cream is applied before the treatment begins to minimize discomfort. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. I’ve had some clients on the verge of falling asleep during their session and then others clenching their fists it really just depends on the person.
What happens at my first session?
During your first session (approx. 2 hours) you should have completed your consent form online through our website. I will take a photo copy of your valid ID(NYS law requires me to keep it on file) I will then start custom designing your brow shape that will compliment your face shape. Once your brow shape is perfect and you agree with it, I apply your topical numbing cream. After letting the cream sit for about 20-25 minutes, I will then begin the process.
What happens at my touch up session?
At your touch up session I will go over all the original strokes, while also adding some new ones. I will also fill in any spots that the pigment didn’t have full retention. It is completely normal to have some strokes that have “disappeared”, meaning the skin did not have good retention in that particular part of the brow or just that particular stroke after your first session. Minor tweaking can also be done on the over all shape and pigment color as well.
Is there any down time after treatment?
You do not have to hide after your treatment! Your freshly bladed brows will appear darker before they get lighter, so prepare to see your brows 30% darker for the first 3-5 days and then they will lighten to your desired color.
Other than that, they will just be red immediately following the treatment but that will go down within a few hours. Most clients will continue with their day as usual.
How do I care for my new brows?
Following your after care will give you optimal results! An aftercare card will be given to each client to take home after their procedure with instructions on how to take care of your brows. The aftercare is pretty simple and will leave you with great results as long as you don’t break the rules!
For a perfect result, aftercare by the customer is important, since this has an influence on about 70% of the result.

DO NOT pick any scabs that form, let them fall off naturally.
What is the maintenance like?
Microblading is known to last about 12-16 months depending on the skin type and lifestyle. Certain skin types (oily and/or larger pores) may need touch ups more often than others. Annual touch ups are recommended for everyone to freshen up your brows.
Can everyone be microbladed?
No, please if you have any of the preexisting medical conditions, as your safety is always my top priority!
You are not a candidate for microblading if you are/have:
Eczema
Psoriasis
Keratosis Palaris
Dermatitis
Chronic Acne
Rosacea
Diabetic
The nature of these types of skin causes easy bleeding, which once again means your skin will not retain the color and will have poor results. Additionally, excessively oily skin can cause the hair strokes to blur and give an unwanted solid effect instead of a naturally hair strokes.
If your skin has large pores, specifically in the region of the eyebrows and forehead (also known as the T-Zone), the color will blur and result in a powdered look. Hair strokes will not lay properly on skin with deep wrinkles, which can make the overall look appear uneven. Moles(cannot be cut through), bumps, piercing, and generally raised skin around the eyebrows will also not be able to retain color.
